Kristiansand International School

Kristiansand International School

Kristiansand International School (KIS) opened its doors on 3rd January 2008 and provides an international education for students from Grade 1 – Grade 10. KIS received a dobble IB-authorization status on 15th December 2011.

The school offers the International Baccalaureate’s (IB) Primary Years Programme from Grade 1-5 and the IB’s Middle Years Programme from Grade 6 -10. Both programmes focus on the development of the whole student and provide a vigorous and internationally recognised education.

In just under four years the school has accomplished what the Principal Sonya Eriksson and her staff set out to achieve and that is authorisation for both the IB Primary and IB Middle Years Programmes at the school.

This authorisation status gives the school the quality stamp it has worked long and hard for and allows it the same internationally recognized status as other authorized IB world schools world-wide.

The school is fully supported by Kristiansand kommune something which the Principal is very proud of.

– In this part of Norway where international enterprises are developing and expanding KIS is an important addition to the other school forms within the district. The staff and students of KIS are delighted at the news, the Principal says.

Mission statement

At KIS we have high expectations of all our students which we believe influences their achievement both at school and in their life outside of school.

Kristiansand International School aims to develop learners who are enthusiastic about life and learning. We strive to become open-minded, independent thinkers, who celebrate cultural diversity through collaboration and compassion. We are respectful and responsible to the commitment of active involvement in our local, national and global communities.

Terms of entry

The school welcomes students from all countries and based upon this principle applies the following terms of entry for its student selection. These terms of entry have been agreed upon by the local education authorities.

  • Students of overseas parents who are working in Kristiansand for a limited period of time.
  • Students of Norwegian parents whose company can confirm that they will in the future work within their department/company overseas.
  • Students whose parents are interested in an international education.

The latter term of entry is based upon the number of places availeble at the school at the time of application.
